About Civic Data.
Civic Data is a normalised, cited civic-data layer for people, applications and agents. One London postcode connects you to official ONS geography, London Fire Brigade incident history, Metropolitan Police recorded crime, Department for Transport road collisions and Planning Data designations, each returned with publisher, dataset version and freshness.
What we do
Public data in the UK is abundant but fragmented: each publisher ships its own files, formats, geographies and update cadence. Civic Data does the repetitive engineering once — downloading the official releases, validating their schemas, normalising postcodes and geographies, spatially joining records to a location, and computing documented historical aggregates — and returns one stable, cited answer through the website, the REST API, a CLI and an MCP server.
Release 1 covers Greater London: ONS postcode geography, London Fire Brigade incident and mobilisation history, Metropolitan Police recorded crime at LSOA level, Department for Transport STATS19 road collisions, and Planning Data designations.
Principles
- Official sources only. Every number traces to a named publisher, dataset version and import time, and the licence travels with it.
- No inferred scores. Civic Data never produces risk, safety, desirability or recommendation scores. It returns factual aggregations with their method documented.
- No LLM in the data path. Responses are computed from the loaded records, never generated.
- Free where the value is public, paid where the value is engineering. Atomic lookups are free; composed profiles are paid per call.
- The same domain logic everywhere. Website, REST, CLI and MCP call identical, tested implementations.
